    Structural elements of a modern building  

Foundation   

 Foundation is the lowest part of the structure which provides a base or superstructure in a proper way.
Basic function of foundation is to transmit the Dead Load, Superimposed Load and Wind Load from the building to the soil on which the building rest in such a way that : -
1) settlements are within permissible limit without considering cracks in superstructure.
2) soil does not well well not transmitted to the subsoil.

 Column
 Column is a structural element which transfer the load through compression member to the foundation. There are many types of column such as square, rectangle, circular, etc.

 Beam 

 Beam is a structural element that primarily resists loads applied laterally to beam' s axis. And then load transfered to the column . There are many types of beams like cantiliver beam, simply supported beam and continuous beam.

 Slab   

 Slab is a common structural element of modern buildings, consisting of a flat, horizontal surfaces made of cast concrete. Slab has two types One Way Slab and Two Way Slab.
